Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada will recognize a Palestinian state in September, provided the governing body of the West Bank agrees to key conditions.
Carney stated that the Palestinian Authority must commit to holding elections in 2026 and implementing broader democratic reforms.
“Preserving the two-state solution means supporting those who choose peace over violence and terrorism,” Carney said at a news conference on Wednesday. “It also means respecting the legitimate aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians for peaceful co-existence — the only path to a secure and prosperous future.”
