Palestinian leaders have welcomed Britain’s announcement that it plans to recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming UN General Assembly session in September, calling it a reaffirmation of international law.
“We welcome the United Kingdom’s announcement of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine in September,” Palestinian Authority Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh wrote on X.
He described the move as “a confirmation of [the UK’s] commitment to international law, the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, and the establishment of an independent state—key to preserving the two-state solution.”
Al-Sheikh added that the decision represents “a serious contribution to promoting peace, security, and stability in the region.”
