The Palestinian Ministry of Education has reported that more than 16,800 Palestinian students have been martyred and thousands of others wounded in Israeli attacks across the besieged Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank since the start of the war on October 7.
According to the ministry, Israel’s aggression in Gaza has martyred 15,553 pre-university students and wounded 23,411. In the occupied West Bank, 103 students were martyred, 691 wounded, and 361 detained.
The statement also detailed the toll on university students. In Gaza, 1,111 university students were martyred, 2,317 wounded, and many detained. In the West Bank, 35 university students were martyred, over 219 wounded, and 399 detained.
Education staff have also suffered heavy losses. In Gaza, 701 pre-university education staff were martyred and 3,015 wounded. In the West Bank, four were martyred, 21 injured, and 182 detained.
At the university level, 221 staff were martyred and 1,416 wounded in Gaza, while 17 were detained in the West Bank.
The ministry condemned the continued Israeli attacks as a deliberate and systematic targeting of Palestine’s education sector.
