Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi: UN to Facilitate Consular Access for Afghans Living in Europe

Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Roza Otunbayeva, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), to discuss key issues affecting Afghans at home and abroad.

The meeting covered a wide range of topics, including the needs of returning refugees, challenges faced by Afghans living abroad, recent developments within Afghanistan, the growth of the private sector, investment opportunities, and other matters of mutual concern.

Foreign Minister Muttaqi emphasized that the Afghan government should be granted access to the problems faced by Afghans living in Europe, particularly to enable the provision of consular services.

He also urged UNAMA to present accurate and balanced reporting that reflects the realities on the ground, so that Afghanistan’s progress and growing stability can be properly conveyed to the international community.

In response, Ms. Otunbayeva reiterated the United Nations’ commitment to supporting the Afghan people. She highlighted ongoing efforts to improve living conditions for returning refugees and to create an environment conducive to investment and job creation in Afghanistan.
